A couple of weeks ago I had Amanda Gore speaking at my first Red Hot Event of the year. Most people know who Amanda is but if you don't, you may like to look her up. Just sayin!! Amanda is a world class international speaker who travels the world speaking to millions of people. She has this ability to touch the hearts of everyone who hears her in a hilarious, real, emotion charged way. She's amazing. You laugh and cry and as you hear what she's saying and think to yourself, 'Yeah, I do that', 'That's ME!'.
Her big focus is spreading the message of Joy around the world. I mean seriously, don't you think we all take things just way too seriously these days? All our problems and stress could quite possibly be as easy as us just learning to lighten up and laugh now and then. Its not rocket science but it can be rocket science teaching people HOW to do this. And that's what Amanda does with precision.
She was talking about 'Joy in the Workplace' and how important that is to create an environment thats happy, fun and most of all productive. As leaders, business owners or employers, the tone we set at work determines the tone of the organisation. It starts with us and filters down. It is of utmost important to bring Joy back into the workplace, allow people to feel valued, acknowledge them for their efforts and celebrate their achievments….including your own.
Watch these videos of Amanda and you'll know what I'm talking about. ENJOY!!!
When I was a kid I remember my Mum calling me 'JennyJoy'. I was happy, carefree and liked making others happy. When I hit my teenage years, the Joy seemed to dissappear altogether. Now I know this is common for many teenagers but for me it became pretty severe. I changed into a totally different person, suffered depression, anorexia and eventually severe Chronic Fatigue. This went on for years. About 7 years to be exact, with me spending much of my time in bed extremely sick. Those were very dark days and I don't remember laughing much or feeling any Joy whatsoever. What was there to be Joyful about? Life just totally sucked!!
I remember people saying things about having positive thoughts and creating what you want in your life. Things were so bad for me that I was just irritated by this stuff. It upset me because I couldnt see a way out of the darkest pit that I was in. Fast forward many years to my early 30's when I set out on a determined journey to find some meaning, purpose, passion and Joy in my life. I didnt really know how or where to start but I read books, talked to people, attended seminars and started putting positive things in place in my life and more importantly my thought life.
I'm now 42 and I am amazed how much has changed in my life. I have Joy again. I laugh everyday, speak positively about everything and truly expect the best for myself and my family. This isnt some brain washing. It comes naturally to me these days and I've noticed how it's affected my husband and three children. Life doesnt suck anymore. It isnt always easy and our circumstances havnt changed alot but we've changed!! Everyday has Joy. Don't miss it because you're too busy being grumpy. Be Grumpy and everyone around you will suffer, be Joyful and everyone around you will rejoice!!!

Joy is 'The emotion of great pleasure arising from present or expected good.' Maquarie Dictionary.

Okay, let me ask this……Is anybody NOT stressed right now? It seems as though everybody is living in a constant high stress mode. We're all running frantically through our days, not getting nearly enough achieved, feeling like we're never getting through our massive lists of things to do, not spending enough time with family and friends and certainly not making time for ourselves.
This lifestyle has become normal for many of us to the point where if you're not stressed people wonder why. What happened and how did we get here?? These days we have so many pressures on us to be a great parent, partner, friend, financially successful, have a great career or business……the list goes on. We step out of bed each morning and as soon as our feet hit the floor its go go go until our head hits the pillow again that night. We've given to others all day without giving a thought to maybe giving to ourselves. Oh yeah, you may have 'given' yourself a treat in the form of chocolate, caffeine or alcohol!! These aren't really helping you though but rather depleting your body of nutrients and feeding addictions that will always crave more.
So what can be done??
Last week I interviewed the gorgeous Like Chocolate For Women ladies. These ladies are travelling the world teaching women about the importance of self care. They live by the motto that 'self care isn't selfish, it's essential!' When we take some time out for ourselves on a daily basis to honour ourself and nurture ourself, we start refilling our tanks rather than running on empty all the time.
It's amazing the difference a few simple changes can make to your health, well being and mindset. Simply burning some calming oils, rubbing energising oils into your skin after a shower, walking in a park for ten minutes or lying on the grass looking up at the sky will energise you, calm you and help you to be so much more productive and happy in your day.
Kim and Fleur know what they're talking about .
Their latest book is all about turning 'Stress into Success'. In this book they talk about the effects stress has on our body and the importance of reducing it.
They are also running a 2 1/2 day workshop in August on The Sunshine Coast to teach women all they know about caring for themselves. They will be covering a range of topics with other expert women who will help you put the balance and calm back into your life.
