Profiling the extraordinary brilliance of ordinary people
They're everywhere!! Your neighbours, your friends, teachers, pastors, colleagues……YOU!!!
There are people all around us with amazing stories to tell. They live their lives doing extraordinary things and yet many of us don't even realise. Many of us don't even realise how amazing we are ourselves.
Sit back and enjoy reading the stories of our awesome Red Hot People.
But first, here's my latest Blog Post. It's been a while……………………….
Okay so do you feel Red Hot right now? Do you feel like everybody else is and you're not? Everyone's on Facebook doing amazing things, having loads of fun, working in the best jobs or business and looking fabulous. You're hairs a mess, you're tired all the time, you don't like your job and you just aren't 'feelin it' right now. You work hard, you try hard, you think positive thoughts but life just isn't quite where you want it to be. Am I close?
Well I'll let you in on a little secret of my own. I've spent the last couple of years feeling anything BUT Red Hot. I've been very quiet here on this blog because I really didn't have anything good to say. It's been tough. I'm 45 this year and times ticking away. All those things I thought I would have achieved by now to make me 'successful' haven't quite worked out the way I planned. It's funny how this happens. I wonder if I'm alone here. I've worked so hard and tried so hard but things just didn't go crazy for me. The stupid old GFC had a bit to do with it. Investment properties, sub-divisions, holding costs on big loans, they all went pear shaped. No fault of our own, just bad timing in the global property, financial market. If I can just add though that this sucked big time!!!!!
But you know what, I'm coming through the other side now and feeling extremely grateful for the simple things in my life. All those things that I forgot to look at as I raced through my life trying to 'be amazing'. I have a house which is a home for my family. It's filled with love, colour and joy. I have 3 amazing teenagers who I adore more each and every day. They never cease to amaze me how incredible they are. All I want as a parent is to raise happy, kind, thoughtful adults. They're well on the way to being all of those things. Its' no surprise to me where they got those traits. I'm thinking I had a bit to do with it. In parenting, Ive done good. Real good.
And then theres my marriage. 22 years down the track and we're still together. It hasn't been all roses and sunshine, I can assure you. I read FB posts about how in love all these couples are and it often makes me wonder. Really? Is it really always fabulous? Brett and I have sure had our rough times. We've been through so much together and it really is a miracle that we've made it this far. But lately Ive been thinking, it's not a miracle, its a choice. We chose to stay and be there for one another, through thick and thin. And I believe through that, love deepens and grows stronger. It's not a fairytale love but a commitment that you will love and care for one another as your life together unfolds. Through the good and the bad. That in itself is special.
I don't want to ramble on too much more because you will lose interest and stop reading. What I want you to know today is that you are Red Hot by just being you. Its as simple as that. There's only one of you so just be the best one you can. Success isn't about being rich and famous and getting lots of Facebook likes. It's about having a wonderful life that you are proud of and seeing the joy in everyday. If you enjoy gardening, then garden, if you enjoy your kids, then be with them. Be Red Hot in whatever it is you do everyday. Even if its in that job you don't love. Bring your joy into that place and never ever let them take it from you. Live in your own bubble of joy, it's warm and cosy in there. And it's all yours!!
3 years ago I went to Sydney to a She Entrepeneurs Event. It was full of women with just two men. One of those fellas was a guy called Nobby. I very quickly observed that he was in his element surrounded by women. Charming, flirtatious and cheeky, he was clearly having a ball. Who was this guy? He seemed to know everybody and they all seemed to love him. I wondered what he did as a business, where he was from and more importantly where he was going. This was a highly relevant question considering we were at an Entrepreneurs Retreat to get clear on our passions, goals, and strategies to achieve them. I realised the reason Nobby was at the retreat was to find out what Women Wanted. You'll understand this as you read on.
It turned out that Nobby was the creator of ‘Money Rules’, a software program to help people eliminate debt and create wealth. After working in the financial planning industry for over 20 years he quit after becoming frustrated with the overregulation and the inability to speak simply to clients about managing their money. Nobby prefers a common sense approach to debt elimination and wealth creation. ‘Keep it simple and always keep it fun’ he says with that ever present cheeky grin.
It comes as no surprise to me that his business focus today is working mainly with women who he feels are often forgotten in the mainstream of business transactions. Here’s a guy who knows how to talk to women about Money. How to save it and how to get it. And the women love him for it. His book ‘Want more Money Honey’ is one book every girl should read. Nobby is the Christian Gray of finance!
He says he is passionate about getting people to save at least $1million toward their retirement lifestyles through creating passive income streams based on their knowledge, experience or education.
Personally Nobby is an inspiration. He has overcome many obstacles along the way. One of the biggest he says, has been in trusting people and dealing with the disappointment when they let you down. But he adds that he gets over things quickly and just moves on.
Nobby is a true Entrepeneur. He loves the thrill and enjoys the ability to start a new business. Having run his own businesses most of his adult life he is not afraid to take on a new challenge. He recently set up ‘Outsourcing Office’ in the Philippines. This is a fantastic concept providing professional , affordable outsourcing for business owners. Check it out here www.OutsourceOK.com
At an age when many people are retiring Nobby is full steam ahead. He’s based in Melbourne with his gorgeous partner Carol but travels the world frequently. He loves meeting and working with people globally. As long as he has internet access, he is free to work and play whenever and wherever he pleases.
She’s the definition of ‘nice’. All things sweet and lovely. You know those people that seem happy all the time? That never get angry, bored, intolerant or ugly. I mean never. They’re content with everything, happy everyday and nice to everyone around them. Well, Karen Murphy, my sister-in-law is without doubt one of those people. She is one of those quiet achievers, who never blows their own trumpet. She quietly goes about her day and yet most people would have no idea just what she’s achieved in her life and how many lives she’s touched.
A stay at home mum to three of the most beautiful little girls around and happily married to Trevor, she was the perfect mother. She loved nothing more than being at home with her girls when they were little. Picnics in the backyard and playing together everyday, life was simple and very happy. A one car, one income family, Karen sacrificed much to give her girls a happy life. Once they were at school she spent her days helping in the Tuck-shop, Reading, Maths & Home Economics in the classroom, RE Teaching, Camps and helping at the School Carnivals.
I’m pretty sure Coolum Primary & High Schools would have struggled without her there many days helping the kids and teachers. For the past 11 years she’s been helping run the Chaplain’s breakfast on Tuesday mornings at Coolum High. This is a breakfast for the students, one morning a week. Of course, Karen’s there at 7.30am, when most of us are still in pjamas.
Karen’s work with the local church has been a massive part of her life. Completely voluntary, she has done so many roles in the church and is one of the first people asked when there’s a need, such as cooking a meal for someone who’s ill, visiting the elderly, picking someone up from the airport. I always joke that she’s a saint. She really is amazing.
Actually the ‘saint’ is pretty on the mark especially when she went to Africa to work in an orphanage and help the underprivileged. She has also done work in Indigenous communities in Outback Australia with teenage girls. All voluntary and all because she cares enough to put action into her words.
Music is her passion and she has been the Music Director at church for the past 15 years. This is a job that requires hours a week and could so easily be a paid job, but she does it because she loves it and loves the people she works with. She’s making a massive difference in the lives of those she works with and come to the church to enjoy the music and worship.
Christmas in the Park is an event held every year in Coolum, drawing a crowd of 1000’s. Guess who organizes it? … Yep, Karen. This is a massive event that she and a wonderful group of people spend months organizing and preparing in practices. For many Coolum families, it’s considered one of the best nights of the year. They don’t know it but they can thank this special lady.
Karen’s girls are all grown up now and are living amazing lives of their own. They adore their Mum. It’s pretty easy to see the impact Karen has had in their lives. She may not realise it, but she has had a massive impact on the lives of everyone around her. She’s a quiet achiever but her achievements are huge.
Being ‘nice’ is nice but Karen is SO much more than that!!
I first met Hayley at Ante-natal classes in 1997. We were both expecting our first babies. I never spoke to her but admired her from afar. She was this young, stunningly beautiful hairdresser who owned her own salon. She was someone I really wanted to get to know but never did. 5 years later when our boys started soccer we met again. We became great friends and I was fascinated by her beauty, energy and ambition.
I learned that she had previously owned her own dance school, was an incredible dancer and at this point a fantastic hairdresser with her own business. She was only 25!!!! You could say I was just a little impressed and she continues to blow me away to this day.
She now has 3 kids aged 16, 13 and 9. She runs Ausfunk dance studio in 8 locations on The Sunshine Coast. She is probably the busiest person I know and has an incredible amount of energy. I often wonder why or how she can do what she does. But watching her with the kids she teaches, the way they adore her and the confidence she’s building into their lives , it’s easy to understand. She adores these kids and they adore her. She is changing their lives with the skill they learn through dance, the confidence and self esteem they gain and the experiences they will remember always. My daughter included. I will forever be grateful to Hayley for what she has given Brooke. I’ve watched her blossom over the last 5 years under Hayleys guidance. She’s learnt hip hop, cheerleading, modeling, acrobatics, jazz, contemporary, and so much more.
There are parents all over the Sunny Coast that are thanking Hayley everyday for what she’s given their kids. Life experience, skills and confidence that money can’t by. Hayley’s passion for what she does is what stands out more than anything. The amount of sleepovers, workshops, afternoons at her house that she has held for the kids over the years that don’t earn her any money and most certainly add to her busy schedule! Yet she continues to do it because she loves these kids and gets so much pleasure out of making such a difference in their lives.
To me Hayley is a superstar!!!
